This 2-hour Lunch and Learn will cover:
Rigid Pavement: Basics of Curing and Joint Placement: This presentation will cover the engineering principles behind hot and cold weather concreting operations, mitigation strategies for both conditions, and how they affect concrete properties. Differing curing practices will be discussed. Examples of good and poor curing practices will also be shown and discussed. Additionally, proper jointing techniques associated with proper placing, timing of contraction joint sawing, materials used for joint filling and controlling and minimizing cracking by properly designed joints.
Structural Concrete Basics: This presentation will discuss a general overview of structural concrete specifications. Also included will be a discussion on concrete mixture proportioning, mass concrete applications, specifications and surface resistivity best practices.
Roller Compacted Concrete: This presentation will cover the results of the multi-year research endeavor that investigated thin roller compacted concrete (RCC) under accelerated loading. The specifics of the experimental setup as well as the far reaching impacts of the research results will be discussed. Future RCC efforts of DOTD and other contracting entities in Louisiana will also be discussed.
